Our story

3 Degrees South came to life in 2012 after the previous company based on the creek left. Jo and Anne decided to stay on and set up 3 degrees South. Since then it has grown from strength to strength training up over 40 RYA instructors and teaching students of all ages, from 6 to 76!

3 Degrees South and the RYA’s ethos is that training should be in a safe environment allowing students to have fun, learn and challenge themselves. Our base at Mnarani Beach Club provides the perfect location, in a sheltered creek, to introduce water sports in a controlled setting.

Promoting water sports activities among local communities

At 3 Degrees South, we are committed to promoting watersports activities and ensuring their accessibility to local communities. Through our Community Sailing program, we provide free sail training to children from Mnarani village, offering them opportunities they might not otherwise have. To date, this initiative has empowered over 30 adults and 45 children with the skills and joy of sailing.

Sailing isn't just about learning new skills; it's about embracing the fun and freedom of harnessing the wind to navigate the creek. For some, it's a thrilling one-time experience; for others, it's a regular source of joy, and for a few, it's a pathway to a new career. Whatever the motivation, we are dedicated to making sailing accessible to our neighbours in Kilifi.

Currently, we are diligently training our team for the upcoming international regatta, the 2025 Optimist African Championship.
