Kilifi Creek offers diverse sailing areas tailored to meet every sailor's needs and the prevailing conditions. Nestled on the serene sandy beach of Mnarani Club, our centre provides a perfect base for exploring the creek. Whether you prefer leisurely cruises, beachfront relaxation, or adventurous wave rides, our spot has it all.

For advanced sailors, we arrange trips to the Bowl for uninterrupted long reaches or venture out onto the ocean for thrilling wave experiences. Regardless of the conditions, there's always an exciting water playground awaiting you. Dive into Kilifi's aquatic wonders and make unforgettable memories on the water!

Diving sites

  • The Wreck, MV Fish Eagle

    Dive into history at the MV Fish Eagle wreck, an artificial reef created in 2013. This 50-metre tugboat now hosts a vibrant marine ecosystem with barracudas, Trevally species, Giant groupers, spade fish, snappers, and more. Advanced divers will love exploring this wreck, resting at 30 metres with the mast at 7 metres below the surface.

  • Vuma Cliffs

    Discover the underwater wonders of Vuma Cliffs, where cliffs extend below the waterline to 5 metres (tide dependent). Explore an extended ledge between 10 to 15 metres, gently sloping down to a wall reaching depths of 17 to 20 metres. Dive sites include Big Rock, Vuma Caves, Canyon Ndogo, and Bruce’s Grotto, suitable for divers of varying experience levels.

  • Takaungu

    Experience the beauty of Takaungu Reef, starting with a deep wall and transitioning into a gently sloping fringing reef. Ideal for divers of all levels, best explored during incoming tide or slack high water conditions.

  • 8 Sites North of Creek Mouth

    Dive into the diverse marine life at eight fringing reef areas, ranging from 8 to 25 meters in depth. Encounter a plethora of coral and fish species, including green and hawksbill turtles. Suitable for divers of all levels, these sites offer a mix of soft and hard corals.

  • Deep Dives

    Challenge yourself with deep reef dives, including Barracuda, Swahili Deep, and Grouper Group sites. These advanced dives reveal intricate underwater landscapes and abundant marine life, best explored during specific tidal conditions.

  • In the Creek

    Explore the rich biodiversity of Kilifi Creek, home to large shoals of silver sides, trevally, and barracuda. Encounter fascinating creatures like nudibranches, shrimps, juvenile lionfish, pipefish, ghost pipefish, and leaf fish. Dive enthusiasts of all levels will find joy in exploring this breeding ground for marine species.

Wind Seasons

October - March

During this period, expect predictable and seasonal conditions characterised by the north-easterly Kaskazi winds blowing from October to March. These winds usher in the warm, dry weather typical of Kenya's dry season. Air temperatures remain above 30°C even at night, while water temperatures hover around 27°C. The wind builds steadily from mid-morning until mid-afternoon, ranging from 6 to 16 knots. Stronger gusts are often experienced on the Ocean and in the Creek, contributing to generally smooth ocean conditions.

April - September

The south-easterly Kusi winds dominate from April to September, ushering in the more variable weather patterns of the monsoon season. Air temperatures range from 28 to 30°C, with water temperatures averaging around 27°C. During this time, the ocean develops a good swell, making it ideal for wave sailors. Winds blow in a similar range (6 - 18 knots) as during the Kaskazi season but in a less predictable daily pattern. While rains may occur during this period, they mostly fall at night. Otherwise, expect the clear blue sky.
